RAW ZINE (2016-2017)

A Creative Project by Amy Wang and Mirae Lee.

RAW ZINE

A CREATIVE PROJECT BY AMY WANG & MIRAE LEE

RAW is a zine of real, unfiltered stories and thoughts, expressed through various artistic medium.

We released the first issue, "Who Are You To Tell Me Who I Am," on February 2016, exploring identity and questioning who we are to us, who we are to others, and who we are in this world.

In the second issue, we took inspiration from American neo-conceptual artist Jenny Holzer's famous statement, "Protect Me From What I Want," and explored craving and all those feelings of desiring, needing, and longing.

As an experimental side project, we created "glimpse" - a zine of secrets told anonymously through an online submission forum. We asked people to share their deepest, most embarrassing, or even the most mundane secrets, as well as provide a short description of themselves along with a "fake" name. We were overwhelmed with secrets, from those that made us tear up or laugh, from those that made us wonder for hours or hold closely inside our hearts. We chose 15 secrets, and I drew portraits of the secret-sharers based on their description which I hope exists as caricatures for them.

After a year and a half, we closed this chapter for individual creative endeavours, but RAW still remains in the archives for you to return to and hopefully find a bit of yourself in our stories.
